In English, they may still be working on handwriting, paragraph writing, spelling, and other components of grammar. They are reading chapter books. Upper-elementary mathematics includes long division, multi-digit multiplication, fractions, decimals, and other calculations performed by hand. As skill levels increase, they have access to more programs.

Course Descriptions & Materials

We uphold our Christian values throughout our learning environment. However, some reading selections may include themes or ideas that do not fully align with those values. Materials may include literature, themes, and academic discussions that may involve complex or sensitive topics. While we maintain a learning environment grounded in our Christian values, some texts and ideas presented in this class may not fully align with those beliefs. These materials are included for educational purposes, critical thinking, and cultural literacy. All readings and resources are provided to parents in advance. Parents are encouraged to review the content of each course.

Art Foundations will teach beginner techniques and styles. Biblical Worldview will help kids understand today’s cultural issues through the lens of Scripture.

After finishing a book, we will watch the film adaptations and compare the film to the book versions.

Foundations of Math

This math course is designed to build confidence, rebuild missing foundational skills, and prepare students for the next level of math. Mrs. Jannette uses methods comparable to the Singapore Dimensions; Instead of pushing through memorization or tricks, she teaches her students to think creatively and learn the mechanics of how all math is related. Math is like a puzzle with rules, and once you learn the rules, you can solve anything.

This course blends direct instruction, guided practice, math journaling, hands‑on activities, and real‑world applications. No calculators in this class. We learn how to calculate by hand. Students are met where they are and provided opportunities to fill in gaps in earlier learning. Students are assigned additional practice through IXL online digital classroom access.

No textbook needed in this class. Materials are directed toward each student with grade level content for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade math. The learning goal is to prepare you for Middle school math.

Materials List:

1. Pencils and highlighters with a carrying case of your choice.

2. Folder with pockets of any kind.

3. Package of printer paper

4. Notebook or Journal

NEW! The Art of War

Test your skills in this fun new class! To bring strategy to life, students practice principles from "The Art of War" through classic and modern board games. The class is longer to allow students plenty of time to complete a puzzle or play the board game together. Bring a lunch or snack item to this class and prepare to have fun.

Students learn strategy in this interactive literature‑and‑strategy course where students dive into Sun Tzu’s timeless classic The Art of War and learn how its principles apply to real life, leadership, decision‑making, and competitive play. Students compete in hands‑on strategy games and explore how ancient wisdom still works today. We will watch clips from "The Art of War" History Channel documentary for another perspective.

All materials provided. Game play covers puzzles, logic, Monopoly, Chess, Chinese GO, and even bring your own board game days. It's an opportunity to learn and have fun together!

NEW! Gifted STEAM Program!

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, integrating creativity with technical and analytical skills. Students must be able to read and write in full sentences. As well as add, subtract, multiply, and divide. They should possess at least a 1st grade knowledge and have good classroom behavior. Welcoming 2nd through 7th grade students.

These students possess above average intellectual development and are capable of demonstrating high performance in the areas of leadership, creativity, motivation and academic learning. We will encourage students to use and expand these skills in math using logic, puzzles, and patterns solving skills. In science we will work with plants and animal passion projects, covering life cycles and microscope labs. At times we will get a little crafty, building and decorating our projects.

In our student science fair, students will follow the scientific method to attempt to answer a question and design an experiment. Then they will report their findings in a foldable board. Last we will present these projects to family and friends at a weekend science fair. Venue to be decided and free entry. (In the event space is limited, tickets will be issued to enter in an equitable way.)
